REDONDO BEACH : Council Votes to Revoke Massage Parlor's License

February 09, 1995|JAMES BENNING

The City Council voted to revoke the business license issued to a massage parlor that was allegedly used as a front for prostitution.

Redondo police arrested two employees of Best Oriental Accupressure Massage on Jan. 18 on suspicion of committing acts of prostitution, pandering and possessing drugs. The arrests were the result of an undercover investigation, police said.

Although charges were dropped against one of the women and the other has not been convicted, the council can revoke a business license if members believe a business is operating in an immoral manner or is a public nuisance, according to the city attorney's office.

"It's unfair," said Randall Kimose, an attorney representing the massage parlor at 2515 Artesia Blvd.

Kimose asked the council to postpone a decision and turn over evidence against the parlor, including a police report, but the council refused. In defending the business, Kimose told the council the two employees had been fired.

"The owner is responsible for the employees," said City Councilman Greg Hill.
