WASHINGTON — The United States on Friday halted government arms sales to Ecuador and Peru and suspended licenses for private-sector sales in what officials called a political move to push the countries to stop their border war.
Argentina also halted arms exports, and the State Department said it understood that Brazil and Chile were following suit.
The U.S. statement said American military training programs in Ecuador and Peru had been canceled. Licenses for private-sector arms sales had been suspended and no new ones would be issued.
