MOORPARK : Developer Receives Go-Ahead for Study

February 17, 1995|SCOTT HADLY

The City Council has given a developer approval for an environmental review of a 620-home development on the north side of Moorpark.

Levy Co. officials want to build from 415 to 620 homes on 285 acres in the rolling hills north of Poindexter Avenue. The environmental review, approved by the council Wednesday night, will describe how the project will affect the city and its surrounding landscape.

In addition, the study will look at the effects of a planned extension of the Simi Valley Freeway, which would cut through the center of the planned community. The highway extension would not occur for more than 20 years, but city officials want to include the plan in their review of the Levy project.

It should take between four and six months to complete the study, councilman Scott Montgomery said.

"Assuming everything checks out, construction could begin in 12-18 months," he said.
