HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING : Calvary Chapel Poised for Title Bid

Defending state champion Santa Ana Calvary Chapel qualified seven of its wrestlers for the state finals to lead the other 108 high schools that participated in the Southern Section Masters' wrestling tournament Saturday at Fountain Valley High.

The top eight finishers earned spots at the state championships, beginning Friday at Stockton.

Calvary Chapel will be seeking its third consecutive state championship.

Leading the way for Calvary Chapel were defending state and Masters' champions Josh Holiday and Ed Mosley. Holiday won the 154-pound title after beating Tom Nelford of Rio Mesa, 9-3, and Mosley pounded Jason Webster of Corona Centennial, 20-9. Sophomore Joe Calavitta, with an impressive 8-2 victory over Jesse Bautista of Oxnard Rio Mesa, won the 127-pound championship for the Eagles.
