March 02, 1995

Andrei Kandalov, a Russian aircraft designer who helped develop several planes for the Soviet Union during the Cold War, will speak at Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday as a guest of the university's School of Engineering and Computer Science.

As a director of the Tupolev Aircraft Design Bureau in Moscow, Kandalov, now 71, participated in the development of several bombers during World War II, the Bear intercontinental bomber and Tupolev's supersonic airliner.

Robert Feldman, a retired Russian studies professor who organized the event, said Kandalov will speak on the history of the Soviet aviation bureau and how it is facing the demands of privatization in Russia today.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. It will be in Library 117A on the west side of the university's main library.
