IG Metall Workers Vote to End German Strike: German engineering workers voted overwhelmingly in favor of a pay agreement reached this week, paving the way for an end to the 2-week-old strikes by thousands of workers, union officials said. The IG Metall union said 91.8% of members polled approved the 4% wage increase and an end to the strikes at about three dozen plants in the southern state of Bavaria. Bavaria had been targeted by IG Metall as a testing ground for its demand for a 6% wage increase. Workers there won the 4% package. IG Metall workers walked off their jobs across Bavaria late last month and the strike eventually grew to include more than 20,000 workers. It was the first strike to hit the crucial engineering sector in 11 years.
