More Work To Be Done

March 12, 1995

Wanda Coleman was unsettled when her friend said, "How could we have been so wrong?" ("Old Times," On the Town, Jan. 22). Her friend was talking about political activism after "the ugly death of a naive '60s idealism capped off by Abbie Hoffman's suicide," Coleman said.

But not long before Hoffman's death, he told a Southern audience that history would show, "dammit, we were right"--referring to working for civil rights, opposing the Vietnam War and supporting certain liberal causes and candidates. There's never a lack of good work that needs to be done.
