Eating fiber-rich foods can reduce cancer risk and prevent constipation. The costs to help take in the recommended 20 to 35 grams of fiber a day:

* Kiwi fruit, 2.6 grams fiber, 46 calories, 25 cents.

* Red Delicious apple, with skin, three grams, 80 calories, $2.35 per pound.

* Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Bar, one gram, 140 calories, eight bars, $3.34.

* Post Fruit & Fibre cereal, six grams, 210 calories, $3.88 a box.
