Nation IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Poll Shows GOP Cuts May Be Too Deep

March 21, 1995|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Most Americans believe Republican lawmakers are going too far in cutting federal social programs that benefit children, the elderly, the poor and the middle class, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll. As a result, President Clinton may be winning back some of the ground he lost after last year's GOP landslide. The survey also showed that while a majority still approve in concept the GOP's "contract with America," 52% also agreed with the statement "the more I hear about what Republicans do in Congress, the less I like it."
