OAK PARK : Schillo Fills Advisory Council Vacancies

March 22, 1995|PAUL ELIAS

Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo Tuesday filled the two vacancies on an Oak Park advisory council with businessmen Douglas A. Hewitson and Chuck Monico.

Hewitson, 38, is chief financial officer of an electronics firm. Monico, 50, is a mortgage broker who served on the council between 1981 and 1989.

Schillo represents the community and oversees the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council.

"I look forward to getting the board a little more active," Hewitson said, adding that Oak Park and its council were ignored by Schillo's predecessors.

The two seats on the five-member advisory council opened when J. Paul Fredericks and Ron Stark resigned their elected positions in January. Fredericks moved out of the area and Stark took a job with Schillo. There are two years left on each of those terms.

The three remaining seats are up for election in November.

Both men vowed to continue to fight for a separate ZIP code for Oak Park. Building a new library and traffic control are other issues facing the community, they said.

"The main issue is the development of 315 new homes" in northeast Oak Park, Monico said. Monico, who moved to Oak Park in 1973, said that project is the last major one planned.

"When I moved to Oak Park, there were 400 homes," he said. Today, more than 4,000 homes dot the unincorporated area on the border of Los Angeles County.
