Gov. Pete Wilson has appointed former Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores to the Californias Border Environmental Cooperation Committee.
The panel is an alliance between California and the Mexican states of Baja California and Baja California Sur to address common environmental issues in the border region.
The committee identifies environmental projects and seeks federal and other funding for them. Members do not receive a salary and appointees do not require Senate confirmation.
The San Pedro Republican is president of her own lobbying firm that does business at Los Angeles City Hall and the state Capitol. She served three terms on the council from 1981 to 1993, chairing the Commerce, Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
