OAK PARK : Schillo to Swear In 2 Council Members

March 28, 1995|PAUL ELIAS

Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo is scheduled to swear in the two newest members of the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council tonight.

Douglas A. Hewitson and Chuck Monico then will join the rest of the council in discussing Schillo's proposal to bring Oak Park its own ZIP code.

Postal officials have twice refused to give Oak Park its own number, saying the community of 15,000 is too small and the change would be too costly.

Oak Park shares its number with neighboring Agoura Hills, in Los Angeles County. Residents say the shared code costs them time and money when dealing with insurance firms, mail-order catalogue companies and the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

"He is going to show that it is in the best economic interest of the post office to change the ZIP code," said Ron Stark, a Schillo aide. Stark served on the Oak Park council until he resigned in January to work for Schillo.

Hewitson, 38, and Monico, 50, have vowed to continue the ZIP code fight.

The council will meet at 8 p.m. in the Oak Park Unified School District conference room.
