Coca-Cola Tentatively Agrees to Buy Barq's: The deal would mark the beverage leader's first purchase of a carbonated soft drink brand in the United States and would give Coca-Cola Co. a leading brand with a long history in a segment where the company has been weak. The relatively small New Orleans-based Barq's Inc. would gain access to much larger marketing resources. More than 90% of Barq's sales volume is already handled by Atlanta-based Coca-Cola's bottling system.
