CAMARILLO : Malathion Spraying Called a Success

March 30, 1995|J.E. MITCHELL

Agriculture officials on Wednesday termed the latest aerial spraying of malathion over eastern Camarillo a success.

The now familiar quartet of helicopters--three spraying and one guiding--left Camarillo Airport at 9 p.m. Tuesday and experienced near-perfect weather conditions during the four-hour mission, according to Doug Hendrix, a spokesman for the state and federal Cooperative Medfly Project.

Tuesday's spray operation over the 16-square-mile zone was the 10th since the battle against the crop-destroying Mediterranean fruit fly began last fall. Because the area's relatively cool weather is extending the pest's life cycle, spraying operations probably will continue through April, Hendrix said.

Hendrix said the next scheduled spraying is scheduled for 9 p.m. April 11, weather permitting.
