A Motown reunion, benefit events hosted by Magic Johnson and Paul Rodriguez and a return engagement of "Jesus Christ Superstar" are among the special programs featured during the Universal Amphitheatre's 1995 season, with ticket sales beginning Sunday.

"The Legends of Motown," Aug. 24-25, will include some of the famed soul label's best-known acts--the Temptations, the Four Tops, the Spinners, Mary Wilson & the Supremes and Jr. Walker & the All-Stars.

Comedian Rodriguez heads a benefit for the National Hispanic Scholarship Fund on June 7, and former basketball star Johnson puts on "A Midsummer Night's Magic" for the United Negro College Fund on July 28.

The Rodriguez benefit is one of many Latin-oriented shows planned for the indoor, 6,000-seat Universal City facility, 25% of whose annual business now comes from Latin entertainment. This year's schedule includes the first area performance by former Mexican TV child star Lucero (July 1) and return appearances by Juan Gabriel (Oct. 20-22), Mana (Nov. 3-4) and Vicente and Alejandro Fernandez (Nov. 17-19).

In addition to the July 20-22 run of "Superstar," the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice rock opera that played 16 Universal shows in 1993, the composer will be saluted in the May 12-13 engagement of "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber," featuring his ex-wife Sarah Brightman (on sale now.)

Subscribers choosing six or more shows get priority seating and first shot at shows added to the schedule. This year subscribers will also get a package of discount coupons for stores and restaurants on the Universal CityWalk. Subscriptions are being sold by mail order only.

Individual show tickets will also be available starting Sunday, through Ticketmaster's telephone charge line only.
