It's Good Vs. Evil For Alison Sweeney

April 02, 1995|NANCY M. REICHARDT

Alison Sweeney, who plays Sami Brady on "Days of Our Lives," professes that the switch in her character from sweet, loving teen to witchy, bratty troublemaker was right up her alley.

"When I joined 'Days' I said I wanted to play a conniving character," she recalls. "The kind of person who was always starting trouble. So this has been fun for me," she says of her recent story line.

"I don't think that Sami has become this evil character," she continues. "I think that she just narrowed her focus and aim down to one goal, which was to get Austin Reed," played by the soon-to-depart Patrick Muldoon.

How does the teen actress feel about Sami's transformation into a vamp, one who has bedded down with Lucas Roberts (Bryan Dattilo) and Austin?

"The writers aged her very rapidly," says Sweeney with a laugh. "Actually, I think I was kind of funny." And Sweeney admits she is not too embarrassed by the turn, because, "fortunately, I was working with some great guys."

At press time, Sweeney was taping her final scenes for "Days of Our Lives." Sami has been written off the show for three months despite the fact that the character had been involved in a front-burner story line. It was announced that Sami will definitely return.
