Procter & Gamble Eyes Romanian Detergent Maker

The maker of household products is in talks to acquire a Romanian detergent maker with the country's key privatization agency, an agency source said. A source in the Balkan country's State Ownership Fund--holder of a 70% stake in about 5,000 state-run companies--said: "The U.S. company wants to buy part of Romtensid." Romtensid, based in the western city of Timisoara, near the border of Serbia and Hungary, is a 70-year-old chemicals and detergent maker with an expected 1995 sales of $5.9 million, company manager Bogdan Sacarescu said.
