MOORPARK : Jamboree to Benefit Disabled Riders

August 11, 1995|SCOTT HADLY

A country jamboree set for Sunday in Moorpark will benefit a program that teaches disabled children to ride horses and compete in equestrian events.

It is the seventh year that the Handicapped Equestrian Learning Program has held the fund-raiser, which has attracted as many as 5,000 people in previous years. Pete Peters, director of the program and organizer of the jamboree, said the yearly event keeps the group in oats through the year.

"This is what we depend on to keep us going," Peters said.

This year's event features sky-diving, the U.S. Navy Seabees, trick riding and a horse show by some of the athletes in the learning program. There will also be live country-Western bands, dancing, a horse auction and pony rides.

Admission is free, but parking costs $2. A barbecue lunch is $7.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Peters Arabian Ranch, 7155 Walnut Canyon Road, Moorpark. For more information call 529-1888.
