Under the Volcano (A&E Tuesday at 2 a.m.): John Huston and writer Guy Gallo achieved triumphantly the daunting task of filming Malcolm Lowry's landmark novel about a British diplomat (Albert Finney, superb) hitting the alcoholic skids in Mexico. Jacqueline Bisset co-stars in the 1984 film.

The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (TMC Friday at 9:20 a.m.): Even though Billy Wilder's suggestive yet melancholy take on Holmes (Robert Stephens) and Dr. Watson (Colin Blakely) was cut by the studio, it still brims with idiosyncrasies and strengths.
