ROLLER HOCKEY : Blades Defeat Bullfrogs in Playoff Game

August 14, 1995|GEORGE DOHRMANN

The Los Angeles Blades had everything going for them entering Sunday night's 10-8 upset of the top-seeded Anaheim Bullfrogs in the opening round of the Roller Hockey International playoffs--it merely took them a while to figure it out.

The Bullfrogs entered the playoffs on a two-game skid, minus two players because of injury, another lost because of suspension and flu slowing two more.

But the announced crowd of 3,444 at the Forum had to wait until the third period for the Blades to take advantage. Los Angeles scored five goals in the period, added two in the fourth, and turned a 5-3 halftime deficit into its first victory over the Bullfrogs in five games.

Forward Peter Kasowski had a hat trick for the Blades, including the game-winner with 40 seconds remaining.

Los Angeles can end the series with a victory at 7:35 Wednesday night at The Pond of Anaheim. If Anaheim wins, the series will be decided in a 12-minute mini-game.
