Refuting team President Carmen Policy's claim that unsigned defensive back Deion Sanders is a luxury, several 49er veterans wonder if they can win a second consecutive Super Bowl without him.

"To say he's a luxury and that we don't need him to win is totally false," tackle Harris Barton said. "He's not only not a luxury, he's a catalyst. It's going to be hard to win the Super Bowl without him."

Said Coach George Seifert: "If they are all paranoid that without Deion, we can't win . . . well, that's a problem."
