A Streetcar Named Historic

August 27, 1995

What is being billed as the largest operating fleet of historic streetcars in the country begin running Friday in San Francisco. The San Francisco F-Market historic streetcar line will travel between downtown and Castro and Market streets. The two dozen cars will use more than three miles of track, boarding islands and overhead electrical wires that cost $50 million and took seven years to construct. Dedication of the new line is at noon; service will be free for the rest of the day. The usual $1 adult fares begin Saturday.
