Davis Quits Hueneme to Go Courting

August 31, 1995

Howard Davis, basketball coach at Hueneme High, has resigned to pursue a job as a junior college assistant.

Davis, 33, coached at Hueneme from 1988 to 1993, then after taking a year off because of illness, coached the Vikings again last season.

Davis posted a record of 47-74 at Hueneme. His best season was 1992-93, when Hueneme was 16-9. Davis declined to say what post he is pursuing.

Granada Hills High, which has already lost five potential starters to transfers this summer, received another blow Wednesday when Devon Rose quit the team.

Rose intends to transfer to Montclair Prep, according to Coach Brad Ratcliff.

Rose, a 6-0, 200-pound junior, was slated to start at tight end and safety for the Highlanders.

An administrative mixup at Hesperia High has left Littlerock with an open date the second week of the season.

Lobo Coach Jim Bauer said Hesperia officials overlooked a previously scheduled game against Rubidoux on Sept. 15 before signing a two-year contract with Littlerock.

The eligibility of Brandon Fonseca, a freshman and the starting right fullback on the Cal State Northridge men's team, is in question as the Matadors prepare for Saturday's opener at California.

Northridge Coach Marwan Ass'ad said Fonseca's high school transcript is being examined to determine if he took the required number of core classes while at Orange Glen (Calif.) High.
