Southeast : LEADERS FOR A DAY

October 05, 1995

It's not easy solving the world's problems, but somebody's got to do it.

About 1,000 high school students from around Southern California will give it a shot Saturday when they gather at Cerritos High School to take part in a Model United Nations Conference.

The event, which will be open to the public, is intended to "bring together students with different backgrounds to resolve problems and deal with the art of compromise," said Cerritos High School teacher Richard Neville.

The students, who have been researching world problems in preparation for the conference, will meet in groups of about 50 to discuss issues such as AIDS in Africa, violence against women and drug trafficking.
