South Bay : BAD NEWS FOR BIG MACS

October 06, 1995

Residents in San Pedro have put a dent in the golden arches.

A proposal to operate a 24-hour McDonald's drive-through service was denied by the Los Angeles Zoning Administration on Thursday when nearly 70 people living near the franchise opposed the plan at a public hearing. Residents complained that keeping the window open all night would increase noise, crime and trash.

The fast-food outlet is at 303 S. Gaffey St., near a residential neighborhood. The management proposed extending the hours of the drive-through window while closing the restaurant seating area at midnight.

Owner Neil Ruby said he will try to work with residents to address their concerns in hopes of extending the hours in the future.
