ARTESIA — Brethren Christian held off Cerritos, 12-7, Friday at Artesia High.

The Warriors (3-2) then drove 70 yards and quarterback David Priestley knelt down at the five-yard line as time ran out. Priestly was 16 of 24 for 137 yards. He completed eight passes to Kevin Cooper for 91 yards.

Brethren Christian had taken the 12-7 lead on its first possession of the second half. The Warriors drove 75 yards in 10 plays, capped by a five-yard touchdown run by Scott Milne. Daniel Muilenburg led the Warrior rushing attack with 96 yards in 20 carries.

On Cerritos' first possession, senior defensive lineman Shawn Nichols sacked Don quarterback Kevin Bright and defensive Mike Lagaspi followed with an interception that set the Warriors up at the Cerritos 48.

However, the Warriors turned over the ball over on downs at the 30.

Cerritos moved the ball 70 yards on nine plays, including eight rushes by Michael Johnson. Johnson finished the drive with a two-yard sweep, for a 7-0 Cerritos lead.

After a punt with 6:59 left in the second quarter, the Warriors were able to get things going. Brethren Christian scored on a two-yard Daniel Muilenburg run for its first touchdown.
