Shawn McCraw

Football/Quarterback

McCraw, the backup quarterback last season whose action was limited by a broken hand, has stepped easily into his role as the starter. "He has an excellent command of our offense," Orange Coach Dick Hill said. "He knows it and he's doing an excellent job of carrying out his assignments." Against Anaheim Thursday, McCraw's performance for something special. He completed 13 of 16 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. One of his incomplete passes was dropped and another was an intentional throwaway.

Cross-country

Mike Gavar

* Tustin, senior. Ran 15 minutes 39 seconds to win dual-meet race and help then-No. 3 Tillers beat then-No. 2 Santa Ana, 28-29, in a Golden West League meet. Also finished 11th at Clovis Invitational, helping team to second.

Football

Kevin Feterik

* Los Alamitos, senior. Passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns in the Griffins' 28-14 victory over Riverside Poly.

Ryan Wilkins

* Esperanza, senior. Had two interceptions and caught two touchdown passes in a 34-20 victory over Los Angeles Locke.

Water polo

Dave Shaddy

* Katella, senior. Scored 24 goals in four games to lead the Knights' to the championship of the Cerritos tournament, the first water polo tournament title in school history.
