FOUNTAIN VALLEY : 2 Robbers Flee With Bank Cash

October 11, 1995|TINA NGUYEN

Two robbers waving guns stormed into a bank Tuesday morning, jumped over the counter to pull money from drawers and escaped with cash, police said.

The robbery occurred at 10:45 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 16000 block of Brookhurst Street, Police Sgt. Dann Bean said.

The men declared that they were committing a robbery and a gunshot was fired into the floor.

"We're not sure if it was intentional to startle the crowd or an accident," Bean said.

The robbers removed money from several teller drawers and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

"We've been hit a couple times by this gang that's really aggressive," Bean said. "Most bank robberies are done really quietly without attracting so much attention. But this one was very aggressive, very different for this area."

Witnesses told police they did not see how the robbers escaped. But police found a 1985 gold Chevy Celebrity two blocks away that had been stolen in Seal Beach about 15 minutes before the robbery.

The robbers, who wore bandannas on their faces, were described as tall, black men in their late teens to early 20s, Bean said.
