Culver City's 16th consecutive Ocean League victory turned out to be tougher than expected, as the Centaurs slipped past Morningside, 26-24. Culver City might have been looking ahead to No. 17, which could come Friday against Mira Costa. Culver City handed Mira Costa its only regular-season losses in 1993 and 1994, but has given way to the Mustangs in the postseason. Mira Costa was Southern Section champion in 1993 and runner-up in '94. Culver City is counting on a new double-wing running attack to continue the streak, an offense that features running back Noe Jaramillo, who carried 26 times for 183 yards against Morningside. He also had 11 unassisted tackles. . . . St. Bernard senior Allison Kahanomokv had a school-record 47 assists in a women's volleyball match against Bishop Montgomery. . . . Senior Andre Farkas returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and had three receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown in Beverly Hills' 30-23 loss to Mira Costa last Friday. . . . Michelle Dale had 12 kills in Venice's 15-6, 15-5, 9-15, 15-5 victory over Fairfax. . . . Luzzan Otte's 11 kills led Marymount (7-1) to a straight-set victory over Immaculate Heart.
