Cuts Planned at Times Mirror Magazine Group: Times Mirror Magazines said it will cut about 125 jobs, primarily from corporate departments, by the end of 1995 in an effort to lower costs and boost magazine profitability. The move effectively decentralizes certain business functions and gives each magazine greater decision-making power to better serve readers, the company said. The staff reductions include jobs eliminated since August, when the company began restructuring. The magazine group has 611 full-time employees. Among Times Mirror's magazines are Popular Science, Field & Stream, Golf Magazine, Ski, Yachting and Outdoor Life. In addition, James L. Kopper, executive vice president, group publisher for Times Mirror Magazines, has taken on the new role of executive director for the company. Kopper will focus on advertiser and agency relations, working directly with Efrem Zimbalist III, chief executive and president of Times Mirror Magazines. The New York-based magazine group is a division of Times Mirror Co., which publishes the Los Angeles Times.
