Armin Ganz; Film Production Designer, Oscar Nominee

Armin Ganz, 47, film production designer who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Francis Ford Coppola's film "Tucker." He had recently been working on Coppola's current film "Jack," starring Robin Williams. Ganz's other production design efforts include the movies "Bull Durham," "Blaze" and "Cobb," and the Oscar-winning short film "Appointments of Dennis Jennings." In television, Ganz was production designer for the series "Fallen Angels" and the miniseries "JFK: Reckless Youth." In 1979, he co-produced an innovative 45-minute historical film about the San Francisco Municipal Railway to be shown on its streetcars. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Ganz graduated from Vanderbilt University and earned a graduate degree in architecture from Washington University of St. Louis. On Saturday, apparently of a heart attack on his houseboat in Sausalito, Calif.
