Italy's Berlusconi Indicted

October 15, 1995| Associated Press

MILAN, Italy — Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was indicted Saturday on charges that he bribed tax auditors at Fininvest, the company that made him rich and then dragged down his government.

The millionaire was among a new order of politicians that rose as scandals toppled the old powerbrokers. Now he is the first of his peers to be ordered to stand trial.

Berlusconi denounced the decision by Judge Fabio Paparella as a political maneuver to derail his comeback.
