Gehlke is a two-time South Coast League first-team selection and also was a Southern Section Division I second-team selection last season after sparking the Monarchs to the first round of the Southern Section playoffs.

Mike Hinton resigned for personal reasons last Friday as Fountain Valley girls' volleyball coach, according to Principal Gary Ernst.

Lori Biller, who last season led the boys' team to its first Sunset League championship since 1984 in her first year as coach, took over as girls' coach.

"We were just lucky that she was on board," Ernst said.

Hinton, in his fourth year as girls' coach, led the Barons to the Southern Section Division II final in 1993.

"He has done an excellent job here. His teams are always competitive," Ernst said. "Sometimes your personal life has to come first."

Fountain Valley is 4-5, 3-2 in the Sunset League.

Brian Corntassel has been hired as baseball coach at Villa Park, Athletic Director Frank Becker said.

Corntassel replaces Scott Wilson, who resigned last spring to take an assistant job at Loara.

Corntassel was an assistant at Esperanza last season. He played at Illinois and was a two-time All-Big Ten outfielder. He played two seasons in the Texas Rangers' organization.

In other coaching changes at Villa Park, Kevin Martin has been hired as the boys' tennis coach and Fidel Alatorre as the boys' soccer coach.
