COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : USC : Foot Injury May End Green's Career

November 01, 1995|EARL GUSTKEY

The career of senior Leonard Green, USC's starting tailback when the season began, may be over.

Green suffered a foot injury in the season's third week. Coach John Robinson indicated Tuesday that the outlook for Green's return is not good.

"His only real hope is a bowl game, or maybe spot play against UCLA [Nov. 18]," he said.

Another tailback, sophomore LaVale Woods, won't be sufficiently recovered from a hamstring injury suffered two weeks ago to play against Stanford Saturday.

With three games remaining, Keyshawn Johnson is within easy reach of one of Johnnie Morton's conference receiving records--most catches in a season.

Johnson has 66 catches for 958 yards. Ex-Trojan Morton had 78 catches for 1,373 yards in 1993. Morton holds the yardage mark alone and shares the 78-catch mark.

For the yardage mark, Johnson would need to average 139 yards per game against Stanford, Oregon State and UCLA.

Johnson got in on two late defensive plays at the end of the USC-Washington tie. He is the center fielder on USC's Hail Mary pass defense.

Senior center Jeremy Hogue has been awarded an $18,000 National Football Foundation post-graduate scholarship.
