THOUSAND OAKS : Details Outlined for Town Center Project

November 03, 1995|DAVID R. BAKER

Representatives of the company working to build a retail and entertainment complex on empty land next to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza fielded questions from city residents at a community meeting Thursday night.

City officials scheduled the meeting to brief residents on plans to create a movie theater, restaurants, shops and possibly a hotel on 11 acres a djacent to the plaza.

About 20 people queried representatives of Kilroy Industries, an El Segundo-based development company, on details of the proposed Thousand Oaks Town Center, asking about traffic circulation, pedestrian access and the size and number of tenants.

The center Kilroy envisions would include a 12- or 14-screen cinema, restaurants and small shops clustered around an open courtyard leading into the Arts Plaza park.

"We hope to create a synergy with the Civic Arts Plaza, something that's compatible with the community and can serve as a catalyst for development along [Thousand Oaks] boulevard," said David J. Armanetti, a development consultant working on the project.

Those who missed Thursday's meeting can attend a second session at City Hall, scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 14.
