COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI's Foxon Advances in Tennis Regionals

UC Irvine's Julian Foxon advanced to the round of 16 with two victories Thursday, 6-0, 6-1 over Jason Wilson of USC in the first match and 6-4, 6-1 over Pepperdine's Ross Duncan in the second round in the ITA Southern California Men's Tennis Regionals at the UCI Tennis Stadium.

Foxon also advanced in the doubles competition with partner Marc Tardif by defeating Doug Nau and Sean Posner of UC Santa Barbara, 6-1, 7-5.

Also advancing for UCI were partners Lars Mohn and Danny Vu, and Thomas Bohan and Robin Walker.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo:

Long Beach State 11, Stanford 10--For the first time since 1991, the 49ers defeated the Cardinal (13-7, 2-6), which is ranked fourth in the nation. Long Beach (8-9, 3-5) is ranked seventh.

Trailing at halftime, 8-7, the 49ers came back with four consecutive goals to take the lead for good at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. Kip Parsons (Villa Park High) had three of those goals.

In nonconference women's volleyball:

Chapman 3, La Verne 0--Shanea Bishop had 15 kills and Lisa Nitta had 39 assists for host Chapman (13-11), which won, 15-6, 15-12, 15-11.
