Jenny Hecker

Newport Harbor, Senior

Volleyball/Setter

Hecker, a four-year starter, helped the Sailors to a stunning victory over top-ranked and previously unbeaten Huntington Beach, in the second round of Division I playoffs. Hecker had 12 kills, 19 digs and 35 assists in the Sailors' five-game victory. "When she plays well, everybody else plays well," Coach Dan Glenn said. "She's kind of the heartbeat of our team."

Cross-country

Allyson Marquand

* University, freshman. Won her II-AA heat at the Southern Section preliminaries, running three miles in 17 minutes 40 seconds, the fastest Orange County time by 50 seconds.

Volleyball

Leslie Christen

* Laguna Beach, senior. Had 15 kills--nine in the fifth game--to lead the Artists to a first-round Division I victory over Santa Margarita.

Tennis

Katey Becker

Faye DeVera

* Villa Park. Becker, a sophomore, won her sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, and DeVera, a junior, won hers, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, to lead the Spartans to a 11-7 victory over University in the second round of the Division II playoffs.

Tam Dang

Quynh Nguyen

* Garden Grove, juniors. Won their doubles sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-0, in a 14-4 victory over Brea Olinda in the first round of the Division IV playoffs. Won 7-5, 6-2, 6-0 in a 11-7 loss to Cerritos, finishing their season undefeated.
