The Pot Describes The Kettle

November 19, 1995

In his tale of an encounter with another airline passenger on the redeye ("Cabin Fever," On the Town, Oct. 15), Jonathan Gold's attempt to flatter himself is a bit hard to accept, since it was he who provoked the confrontation.

His remarks about his capacity, if push came to shove, to whup the other guy are equally unendearing. Let's hope that this attitude, along with Gold's statement that he enjoys cutting off other freeway drivers, is not an accurate gauge of his maturity. Instead of gloating in print about how he got his adversary to back down (really!), maybe he should have examined his own intemperate response to incivility.

One more thing: I never thought I'd see Gold describe someones' appearance and then say: "you know the type."
