Tools of the Trade : Unique Program Gives Vocational School Graduates a Head Start on Their Careers Hilda Tomberlin, Hilda Tomberlin is dean of career and technical education at Los Angeles Trade/Technical College. The community college has an enrollment of almost 13,000 students who choose courses from among 60 different trades or vocations. In late 1991, Tomberlin was approached by a local representative of the Miller Brewing Co. about setting up a scholarship program that each year would provide tools and equipment for graduating students. The program, called Tools for Success, has become a nationwide effort on Miller's part. She was interviewed by Karen E. Klein
