BAKERSFIELD — Last year's big storms began replenishing an underground water bank in Kern County after nearly a decade of drought.
One million acre-feet of water was channeled to the underground basin during 1995 by the Kern County Water Agency, the city of Bakersfield and 17 Kern County irrigation districts. The total far exceeded the amount saved in previous good water years of 1983 and 1986.
