A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder Friday, a day after a Santa Ana teenager was killed as he drove through a neighborhood, police said.
Investigators believe that Jesus Guzman, a known Santa Ana gang member, shot Ivan Morones, 18, and Alejandro Sandoval, 14, as they were driving in the 2200 block of South Lowell Street, Santa Ana Police Lt. Bob Helton said.
At 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Morones was driving Sandoval to his home in a car that had been reported stolen in Santa Ana two hours before, police said. Five to seven shots were fired at them from a car approaching from the opposite direction.
Morones died at the scene. Sandoval was hit once in the back and taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
About midnight, police found an abandoned car with bullet holes and bloodstains on the front seat. The car was found several miles from the shooting at a house in the 2100 block of South Cedar Street in Santa Ana, Helton said. The car was linked to Guzman, who was arrested Friday afternoon, Helton said.
Guzman had suffered a gunshot wound to the hand, police said. He remains at Orange County Jail on $250,000 bail.
