Boston Chicken, Starbucks Make Bagel Move: Boston Chicken Inc. and Starbucks Coffee Co., two of the decade's hottest growth companies, are getting closer together with the purchase of a bagel chain, though neither is buying the chain directly. Boston Chicken, based in Golden, Colo., is helping Einstein Bros. Bagels Inc. buy Noah's New York Bagels Inc. for $100 million. Seattle-based Starbucks has a 20% stake in San Leandro, Calif.-based Noah's. Faced with tough competition from Noah's, a 37-store West Coast kosher bagel chain, Einstein decided to buy the company. Einstein will maintain the Noah's name in California, Washington and Oregon, expanding the Einstein Bros. design in other regions.
