Tom Petty and several of his Heartbreakers have been backing Johnny Cash on sessions for his second Rick Rubin-produced album. Country star Marty Stuart--a longtime Cash associate--is also on board, with a version of Soundgarden's "Rusted Cage" among the songs recorded. . . .

Anthony Edwards enlisted his "ER" co-star Juliana Margolies to appear in his music video directing debut, a clip for the major-label debut of Pennsylvania band the Badlees. Margolies has the title role for the song "Angeline Is Coming Home." . . .

Ice Cube has two new projects in the works: a collaboration with rappers WC (from the Maad Circle) and Mack 10 under the group name Westside Connection, with an album due this summer, and his own album, scheduled for October. . . . Rage Against the Machine has returned to the studio to record one more song for its second album, due April 16. . . .

Korn will start work on its second album in April after finishing as opening act on Ozzy Osbourne's tour. . . . Sponge has just finished recording its follow-up to its million-selling 1994 debut "Rotting Pinata." The new album is due in June. . . .

A half-hour Loreena McKennitt special, "No Journey's End," will air on KCET Channel 28 on March 10. The show explores the medieval roots of the Canadian performer's music with footage shot in Ireland, Spain and Morocco.
