Anti-CCRI Rhetoric

February 25, 1996

During the Feb. 14 City Council discussion of the "California civil rights initiative," Councilman Richard Alarcon loudly compared supporters of CCRI to Nazis, and compared the language of the initiative itself to "Mein Kampf," Hitler's manifesto. Whether you support CCRI or oppose it, this kind of extremist rhetoric is unacceptable and should be condemned by all. As a Jew, I found his statements particularly offensive.

There are legitimate arguments against CCRI, wrong in my personal opinion, but legitimate. By engaging in this kind of dangerous rhetoric, Alarcon seeks to demonize CCRI.
