In other conference baseball:

Cypress 4, Riverside 1--Sophomore Michael Cosgrove went eight innings, allowing one run on five hits and Scott Daeley had two RBIs for Cypress (14-4, 2-0).

Fullerton 11, Golden West 1--Dan Billingsley retired the first 15 batters on 35 pitches for Fullerton and improved to 2-0. Poncho Ruiz highlighted a six-run sixth inning with a three-run double for the Hornets (11-2, 2-0).

In nonconference baseball:

Saddleback 5, San Diego Mesa (7, rain)--Greg Ferrell had a three-run double in the third inning for Saddleback (8-3-1). Tavares Comeaux was two for four for the Gauchos.

In Orange Empire Conference men's track and field:

Golden West 79, Orange Coast 65--David Shaw won three events for Golden West (1-2). Shaw placed first in the 200 meters (22.8 seconds), the long jump (21-7 1/2) and the triple jump (45-1 1/2). Chuck Hustedt won the 110 hurdles (16.3) and the 400 hurdles (57.9) for the Rustlers.

Johann Appell won the 800 (2:10.4), the 1,500 (4:24.1) and the 5,000 (17.34.3) for Orange Coast (0-3).

In Orange Empire Conference women's track and field:

Golden West 112, Orange Coast 35, MiraCosta 2--Golden West (2-2) defeated Orange Coast (1-3) for the first time in the school's history.

Ursula Luna led the Rustlers, winning five events. Luna won the 100 in 13.2, the 200 in 27.8, the long jump in 15-5 and she competed on both winning relay teams.
