Mind Toffee

May 02, 1996|CHARLES PERRY

Even OK toffee is pretty good, but Mrs. Weinstein's Toffee--made by a Santa Barbara psychologist--is very, very good: crunchy, buttery, generously flavored with almonds, pistachios and hazelnuts and thatched with crushed chocolate. It comes in half-pound ($14.75), 1-pound ($22) and 1 1/2-pound ($29.50) tins. Some Santa Barbara shops stock it, or the good doctor will send it by UPS (shipping charge comes to about $5 a pound). To order, call (800) 682-0978 (fax number: (805) 687-5112).

Major Mocha

Connoisseurs say you can taste a fruit-like flavor in real Arabian Mocha coffee, something like cherries or berries. It's distinctly noticeable in the excellent Mocha available at City Bean Coffee and at a very good price for this variety: $11.75 a pound. The company says the Mocha also blends well with Java. To order, call (888) CITYBEAN.
