CARMEL--Works in a wide variety of media are showcased at the Carmel Art Festival, May 16-19. The event is held in more than 30 venues in the village of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Special events include demonstrations, receptions and the Carmel Art Walk. 6-9 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Free. (800) 550-4333.

GLEN ELLEN--The Grainaissance Faire, a celebration of the renaissance of craft breads and beers, is May 17-19. Featured: "Salute to the Yeast," with beer and bread tastings and other gourmet foods, a beer label exhibit, live entertainment and more, noon-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday in Jack London State Park ($35 at the gate; $25 in advance). A symposium on craft brewing and bread baking is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday-Sunday, and a banquet is held at 7 p.m. Saturday. For tickets and information: (707) 938-1133.

PASO ROBLES--This community salutes its wineries at the Paso Robles Wine Festival, noon-5 p.m. May 18-19 in downtown's City Park. Featured are more than 30 wineries, food booths, live music and a silent auction. $20 for a glass and eight tasting tickets. Other festival events include a golf tournament Friday, winemaker dinners Thursday-Saturday and special events at the wineries throughout the weekend. (805) 238-0506.

TIBURON--There is more to be tasted at Tiburon's 12th annual Wine Festival, 1-4:30 p.m. May 19. Wines from 60 California wineries, food and live music are offered at the event at Point Tiburon Plaza, next to the Tiburon waterfront. $20 at the festival; $15 in advance. SANTA BARBARA--Pavement street squares come alive with chalk paintings at the I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. May 25-27 at the Santa Barbara Mission.
