Rick Chessman

Servite, Senior

Baseball/Pitcher

Chessman, the Golden West League player of the year, struggled a bit with his control in the Friars' first-round Division II playoff game with City of Industry Workman, but everything else was fine. Chessman walked four but pitched a one-hitter, giving up only a ground-ball double down the line to lead off the seventh. The 2-0 victory was the first shutout of his high school career and moved the Friars into a second-round game Tuesday against top-seeded Redondo Beach Redondo Union.
