Lana Moran of San Bernardino Cajon pitched her 70th shutout, a state record, in a 3-0 victory over Yucaipa on Tuesday in the second round of the Southern Section Division IV playoffs. Moran struck out 12 and gave up four hits to surpass Lakewood St. Joseph's Lisa Fernandez, who had 69 shutouts from 1986 to '89, and San Mateo Hillsdale's Maureen Brady (1988-91). "Our defense did a good job," Moran said. "I went a couple of innings without a strikeout, which I don't like to do." . . . Woodland Hills El Camino Real won the City Section Division 4-A title with a 6-0 victory Tuesday over top-seeded Granada Hills Kennedy at UCLA. Senior Tami Jones (14-2) pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight for the second-seeded Conquistadores, who have won eight titles in the last 12 years. Jones, who previously played shortstop, also had three hits, scored two runs and drove in another. . . . Top-seeded Verdugo Hills (21-3), making its fourth consecutive appearance in the City 3-A finals, defeated South Gate, 4-1, Tuesday to win its first title since 1993. Senior Melanie Wood escaped from frequent trouble against South Gate (20-4), scattering eight hits and striking out 12.
