Assemblyman Nao Takasugi (R-Oxnard) was among five people who were honored by Ventura College on Friday night at the college's Hall of Achievement awards dinner.
The event, which was held in Ventura, honors people for their service to the community, education and their past or present association with Ventura College.
Those honored were Takasugi; developer Martin Hansen, who donated $50,000 to help build Guthrie Hall in 1990; George Lanning, a 33-year college administrator who retired last year; Ed Lyon, an alumnus and local businessman active in community service; and Judge Colleen Toy White, an alumna.
Takasugi began his college education at Ventura College prior to attending UCLA and Temple University in Philadelphia.
"I am thrilled and humbled to be selected as an honoree," said Takasugi. "Ventura College has made great progress in the last 50-odd years since I was a student."
